Greetings from the Critique Club -

First off - let me welcome you to the wonderful world that is DPC. I trust that you will find it quite as addictive as I have.

Now to your image. I will be upfront and tell you I voted this a 4. You did meet the challenge with an image of knives but I felt there were some issues with the image that prevented me from scoring it higher.

I guess my main issue is the black corner. It takes up alot of the image, more than I prefer. It leaves the pic feeling unbalanced to me, and to have such a big area with absolutely no detail seems to have no purpose for this shot.

The composition is a bit uninteresting to me as well. I can tell that you set up the knives but the pattern or rhyme isnt flattering. They feel arranged but again with no purpose. There isnt a focal point with the knives or a center of interest.

Overall this picture is just there. It doesnt grab my attention or make me want to look longer.

Let me say that my first entry (first four actually) were all sub 5 scores. They stunk real bad. But I took my time, studied winning images, learned how to process and over the past year my results have changed. You have come across a great place to learn and suck information. Look over past winners, read their descriptions, read the how to threads and ask people questions. Don't be bummed out by a low scoring first image but look at it as your bench mark. Pay attention to what does well and try to implement that into your style. And most of all have fun here. This is a great place to play.

And again - welcome to DPC!

Well - I love this shot. Not really diggin the square crop. The square crop just takes away from the massiveness that is this pic. Love the heavy editing. Has a Gotham City kind of feel. Excellent work Deb.

Oh my! My first reaction if I had allowed it to follow through would have entailed me having to detail out my keyboard because of the technicolor yawn that would have happened. This just isn't right. Like the selective desat though. But boy this shot creeps me out. It should have been your triptych entry.

First off let me just say that Eeyore ROCKS! And he also seems to be the right character for this image. I get the feeling that the little girl is kind of longing for something. Since we can't see her face for any expression, the pose, the doll and the title steers it along. I like the patterns of her outfitand hat and the lines of the fence. The b&w feels very good, but I would also be interested inseeing a color version. This is a very nice capture. Good eye.

Sorry about this comment. Not quite sure what it was from. I have a sneaking suspicion that my kid got on the computer whilst I was away. But now while I am here - I might as well go ahead and leave a critique club like comment.

I really like the color and detail on the strawberry. Vibrant without being overly saturated. The layout of the triptych works well too. I guess my only real complaint is the total desat of whatver the strawberry is above in the main pic. If it is chocolate I would personally like to see the chocolate browns underneath. I think it would give the image a more complete feel. It would have balanced out the color of the strawberry well. As it is it leaves the image feelig a little flat, or maybe its just that it makes the strawberry just feel like its just hanging there. Overall though nice image and composition.

Hope this makes up for the +- comment left previously. I apologize for that.

Tim

Funny - I come back to your profile checkin gout some of your images and I come across this one again. Its been a while since I have seen it. I start thinking to myself "this is a really cool shot - I should fave it". But then I realize that I can't fave it again. ;)
