Up stairs (Week 5)by booboo_goonComment: Looking upwards and from dark to light has a certain symbolism, you remind me. Finding those locations that are imbued with mood, such as this one, is a worthy pursuit. I will have to get out and about more. |

Dennis (Week 6)by booboo_goonComment: You teach me that muddling together light and dark shapes can confuse the eye and mind into looking without seeing the obvious. In this case, I have to check myself and ask, is it the white or the black he wants me to look at - what are the shapes. It is like a visual puzzle. |

Wk_6_B&W_Applesby twmaxComment: You teach me that by removing colour the viewer can only appreciate tone and form. The bw rendition yields a tranquil, sometimes passive image, which has its place as you show here. |

Sunset-in-B&W2Glow.jpgby 777STANComment: You remind me that it is natural to make a trade off between a dark region and a light region when exposing a sensor. Often the two cannot be achieved at once and in my opinion in real life the eye and brain are registering one or the other - not both. Your choice of revealing the sky enhances the mystery of the road and the woodland and imbues the image with some moody feeling. HDR techniques remove that feeling in order to gain a forensic look at the world. 0.02 cents worth nothing at current exchange rates. |

Fort Rodman.jpgby of-snowComment: You remind me that the eye often travels from a blur to clarity. Always there is the need for resolution, understanding, sight in the human mind. Like someone being drawn to the light away from the dark my eye travels from right to left. |

Cactusby VeioletsComment: Botanical photos, you teach me, should never be overlooked. They always have some sort of careful pattern showing, be it Fibonacci numbers, or geometrical symmetry. Perhaps they are signs of 'the plan.' ;-) |

Reflecting Giantby trevytrevComment: You remind me with this photo that context is important - even in the visual arts. The context might be a tree to show scale or some words to express the context. Some wonders of the modern world are easily overlooked without context. For instance, I believe no one can truly understand peace unless they have been drenched in war. The context is often missing these days. |

Early Sunday, cold, wet fun.by summer03Comment: Many a year I spent surfing on the North Cornwall coast in all sorts of weather. Usually the best surf was in bad weather. I remember the ice cream headaches from plunging ones head through waves in the winter and walking along frosty beaches to get to the waves. Your photo brings back great memories.... and it is a nice shot too. |

Assessmentby GermaineComment: A small amount of movement brings alive a fertile yet static background, you teach me. The journalist's view. The viewer viewing the viewer. Useful quirky metaphors. |

Week 5 - B&W Monsterby taddzillaComment: You remind me that the cartoon caricature one sometimes sees in real life is almost surreal. It is a useful subject and reveals something about life at the time. |
