A passion signby gpalosComment: *Critique Club*
First off congrats on your second challenge. It is really hard to put yourself out there with a piece to have other judge and critique you. I think the subject is excellent for the challenge. I think the lighting itself is a little distracting in the shot. The shadows are almost to dark and over powering. Also I think the focus could have been a little stronger, even if it just one point that you focus on it would give the viewers an exact point for the focus. The subjects overall placement is a little off it isn't quite center and isn't quite off to one side or another to fit the frame. I would play with the shot itself a little, that's usually what I try to look at. I would try placing the light from below to see how that enhances the shot, I don't think putting the light above would result in the effect you were looking for. Also I would either tighten your crop or bring it out a little more. Keep up the good work, and hopefully this helps you. |

Play Timeby livitupComment: *Critique Club*
Play Time is a good example of the single out category. After looking at the photo and reading your photographer's comments, it makes much more sense as to why. I like the 4x3 approach, I don't know if I would have noticed without reading your comments, so I am very thankful you posted that. I also think people probably would have voted higher also if they understood what you were trying to do, like if we could see the comments during voting. I really do like the layer and contrast you used to give more depth the shot and single out the subject. The grain is probably a little distracting for some voters, they may even have thought it was a photographic error as opposed to the impression you were trying to achieve. Also I think black and white was a great choice, colors might have taken away from the subject too much.
I think this is one of those piece that you should be very proud of you defiantly captured the subject in a prefect manner. |

There Are Angels Everywhereby ColeyComment: *Critique Club*
Ok...I love the angel shots, no matter what they just grab my attention and I remember seeing this one during the challenge.
Great placement in the Singled Out Challenge, I think 15th is excellent is such a hard category. I think black and white was an excellent choice in this piece it allows the viewers to focus on the subject and not get distracted by the foreground being bright or overpowering. I like the DOF, I think blurring the foreground was key to single out the subject itself. I think the ice rink also gives this piece just a little more as opposed to if you took it in a store or just out in town. I personally don't see anything I would change, I think you did excellent work and the votes are a pretty good reflection in this situation. Wonderful candid. |
