This would have been a good entry for the textures challenge.
The photo seems a bit bright, but that may just be dirt - in any case, I like the idea of the closeup. I wish the eyes were more visible. They look kindof sad.

tough lighting situation here. The bottom petals are a bit blown out, but some of the center features would be lost if you toned it down.
