Makes me wonder, maybe there is a woman behind him somewhere? And the tonal rage is great as always. What is it on the wall, by the way, Titian, Rubens? Looks generally familiar but I can't place it

nice portrait. couple of things would improve it IMO: moving the eyes a bit higher in the frame, and using a different background. I think it would look much better if it was dark and smooth as a contrast to his fur.
