A Weathered Work Truckby JEFFJSBComment: This is a more interesting perspective that straight dead on - so kudos for trying to be interesting. To me, this screams for black and white treatment. The blue on the truck competes with the blue in the sky, and needs a teeny bit more contrast to break out the white bar and the GMC logo. I love that the side mirrors are different. :) The frame overall lacks depth; ordinarily I recommend shooting from an angle to show the long and wide sides of the subject to achieve that, but I see that you might have been going for a "smack at you" effect which does work here, as I do have a bit of a feeling like I'm about to get run over but wait (!) the truck is dead and abandoned. Phew. :) |

Blue Morningby KarenNfldComment: I think here the foreground element needs to take up more of the frame. The fog is too far away to be useful as part of the composition, and there's nothing super special about the horizon in the background. The foreground element though, has awesome shapes available with the reflection, and the stones just underneath the water would have added a very interesting element as a background. With what you've presented, it's a bit underexposed; and the coldness/grayness of the tones don't seem to add to any "story" - that I can see anyway. The feeling that I'm left with is that this might be a location that is special to you, but I don't see anything that makes it special to me as a viewer. Nonetheless, I can see attempts to follow good rules of composition and it's a decent image overall. |

Morning at Goaby manishComment: Hmm, interesting choice of color toning. I'm programmed to accept silhouettes with warm tones, yet, I like this very much. With regard to composition, it seems like a bit more room on the left side of the frame would help balance it. I'm guessing it was cropped for lack of shadow detail? In any event, the longer I look the better I like. Good job! |

Bow Lake Winter Beautyby basssman7Comment: Very nice job here - the reflection makes an interesting shape in the frame and the entire shot is well-balanced. |

Old & Rundownby bs-photosComment: Heh, I love old trucks. Here, the perspective is rather ordinary. To evoke a feeling of abandonment and inferiority, stand on something and shoot downward. Or, you could have shot from more of an angle, showing the long and wide side at the same time. The vehicle in the background (the closest one) is rather ruining the line of the subject's cab. This is not a bad shot at all, but the ordinary perspective and weak composition don't fully do the subject justice. |

FIRST SNOWby shutterbug8Comment: This is a good example of how a small change in composition could have a big change in impact. It seems like there is a lovely swoop in the water's edge, and certainly you chose a great time of day to get the reflection. I'm not sure what was actually in the scene in the right of the frame, but I might have scootched down a little lower to the ground, started the left side of the frame where the tree on the edge is, and let the landscape swirl through the frame leading up to what appears to be a snow-covered cabin? Just a thought. As for what you have presented, there's just a bit too much water in the foreground which is keeping the balance of the composition off. The main horizon line is pretty centered in the frame, making the tops of the trees cut off on both ends. Overall, it's a good shot that only seems to lack a "story." |

Scaffolded City Hall Sunsetby banmornComment: Beautiful subject, too bad about the scaffolding. I'm just not sure why the scaffolding is important to the scene - it doesn't seem to be part of a "story" that you are trying to tell with the image. With that said, the exposure is nailed, the sharpness is right on, and technically the image is pretty spot-on. As a presentation of art, I'm just not getting the story piece of it. Still, I'm impressed with the detail and sharpness so it's getting a good score. :) |

Volcanic Beachby olimpiadaComment: Just beautiful. Composition well done to lead the eye through the frame to the gorgeous horizon. Good luck in the challenge! |

Emileyby cregoComment: This is probably just me, but I generally associate cold tones and colors with colder expressions. A beautiful sunny smile like this needs a warmer tone to evoke a warmer feeling? Still, a great shot - I'm sure she's pleased. Good luck in the challenge. |
