I like the black and white conversion here for whites are nice and white the blacks are nice and black and there are many tones of gray in between. I'm not so sure I like the angle. It feels kind of unnatural.

While you say there is nothing special about this train, if you darken this whole image by a full 1-2 f-stops, the sky and train will take on a much more dramatic look.

One way to do this would be to duplicate the layer in PS, set the top layer to Multiply and create a mask (black) by hitting alt and the box with the dot. Then brush on white with a very large brush, but only at about 11-15% opacity. Then keep adding/piling up the white to get your desired level of 'darkening'

Must, must, must level this shot with a slight rotation. Doing so will save you a point at least on challenges.
