The Virginia Electric and Power Company's Embrey Power Station (originally named Spotsylvania Water Power Company Power House Number 1)built in 1910. The Virginia Electric and Power Company's Embrey Power StationSpotsylvania Water Power Company was noted for providing the city with "the lowest rates for electric lights, heat and power on the Atlantic Seaboard, from Maine to Florida." The plant was in operation until the early 1960's, when it was shut down when it became cheaper to use the power supplied from the Virginia Electric Power Company (VEPCO). The plant remains vacant today.

Sun glare in this shot is a great effect to a very dark image!

My kind of place. I think it would be fun to poke around outside with a metal detector, who knows what may be there. Too bad they didn't save it as a museum piece with the equipment in it. The right lens shade may have helped with the lens flare, but maybe you wanted it to add to the feel of the image. Sometimes you can get permission to photograph historic places like this if you ask the local police, or the people who own the property.
Then again, it's a lot more exciting to just take your chances.

Nice B&W conversion, looks like there would be lots of interesting things in and around there to shoot..

It has many no trespassing signs all around and it is very marshy this time of year so... of course I went inside.

Great building. I'd love to see it in less full light - it looks fantastic.
