KiwiBerryby Chilly0999Comment: Composition/Content: I am quite fond of fruit macros for some reason! I rated it high during the challenge. I like the way the lines and curves work together, but the most striking thing about this photo is the contrast of colors. The colors work nicely together, but the main problem I have is the focus of the berry. To me, it is as much the subject of this photo as the kiwi, so should share the focus. Right now it seems to be less of a focal point and more of just a contrasting object in the frame. Background/lighting: The white background works well here, although the lighting seems off on the berry. My eyes are drawn to the right side of the kiwi where the light hits it, but then flow over to the berry, where it just sort of fades. Maybe a secondary light would have been nice here. Overall, I like this. I know with my fruit macros, I have to take many pics with many different angles to get the right focus and composition. I think the most important thing with something like this is the focus--perhaps playing around with getting closer w/ less zoom and vice versa. Keep in mind that I am NOT saying that everything in the frame should be in focus--just the focal point! :) For example, given the way you cropped the shot, you might have started the focus in the front corner and let the DOF fade into the background. Or maybe just incorporated more than just the left edge of the berry---bringing more of the berry's texture into view. Just food for thought! ;) |

Spriteby FrooberComment: i love this!! i love the graduated tones and the fact that all you see of the little girl is her sillouette. it really does make her look like a little sprite or nyad! awesome. 9--amitchell |

Demonic Drummerby ClubJuggleComment: this is fabulous. you managed to catch him with virtually no motion blur--very nice! good band shots are difficult--but you got it! interestingly--his facial expression goes perfectly with his demon eye--making it almost seem intentional--like part of his "stage costume". nice work! 9--amitchell |

After a Showerby lisaeComment: i dig this--nice mood portrayed here. it is definitely a part of our everyday life. (because of the somewhat monochrome color scheme going on here--just for fun i took the liberty of throwing it in photoshop and changing it to black and white with a little grain-- and liked that too, because the windows give a cool overblown effect there as well.) anyway, nice framing and composition on this one and i also like the subtle motion blur. 8--amitchell |

Selling Lollipops To Surviveby alanfreedComment: nice job---this picture portrays quite a bit of emotion. i wonder what it would have looked like as a straight black and white? also i would have liked to see just a tad more headroom--but then again you probably had to crop out some unecessary "sidewalk elements!" these are just other ideas---the picture is great as it is! 9--amitchell |
