trestle in the distanceby skewsmeComment: I like how, as photographed, the trestle is like an afterthought amid the lacy woods. As are the tracks, too, it is subsumed in nature's profusion. A compelling perspective. |

Rialtoby MargaretNetComment: The bridge can be taken in in a glance as one revels in the beauty that opens up along the canal. Wonderful time of day. The blurred cloud streaks are a fanfare, sink into the moment it declaims. The light is beautifully expressed. Thanks for sharing the magic. |

War of the Palatinate Successionby vawendyComment: Looks like a painting from the nineteenth century, a celebration of the dawning of the industrial era (maybe a bit late, but who's counting). The mainly yellow, brown and black palette is somehow made to seem gaudy. What then elevates this image, at least in my eyes, is the reflection of the fireworks display in the water. It's been transformed into a sea creature, a dragon or a fish from the deepest abyss. It's a wink, a nod to those who see past the pomp.
Personal second favorite of the challenge. |

The original bridgeby PaulComment: Strong, moody image that seems to be out of a dark fairy tale. Fascinating how this simple bridge, as seen by the photographer, can be so marvelously transformed. The sky reflected in the water seems to be painted from the imagination. The smoke, or vapor, issuing from him (or so I've assumed) is a further bridge to the clouds. His looming stance adds to the ominous feeling. Not done in a documentary style, it's an illustration in an ancient book.

Merge by Bear_MusicComment: Serene composition, even the cars are playing nice. Handsome colors. Wondering why the brown areas look so leathery.

Sunlitby digifotojoComment: Nice black and white. Looks like one of those wildly colored and ornate sea slugs tooling about the ocean. |

House of the rising cloudsby AmmieComment: Wonderful side-lit image, graphically almost simple but powerful. The burgeoning clouds seem to be heading towards the stoic, white brick building, infusing the scene with dramatic tension. Once again, the light is charged, and the grass, fence and mounds anchor the entirety. Really fine. |

Georgia by rozComment: Fine black and white image of this lovely, self-possessed girl. Her haphazard strands of hair falling over her face hints at a wildness and freedom within. As does the spider on her shoulder. Good choice of background, gently setting off the color and texture of her shirt. The center is well held. |

Old Lionby LevTComment: This gentleman, with his direct gaze, seems to hold his bass fiddle lovingly, like a child. He has a quiet dignity. Just a bit of blur to let the viewer understand that music is taking place. Nice depth of field. The light gives him and his instrument a soft glow. |
