The lighting and shallow DOF work well to give the image impact.

Bottom of the Ninthby eptasdiComment: I have to relate this to soccer to get the equivalent emotion and I`m guessing it`s similar to the agonies of a penalty shootout.
I like the use of B/W and the grain effect....pity it was "basic editing" or you could have cloned the elbow out.
