by messerschmittComment: Wow--not photoshopped? A distorted reflection. Wish I could figure out how to do it! Another favorite for me! |

This Ole House by kevrobertsonComment: Congrat's on Ribbon #1. What a great shot, and a great setup with the fog machines. Here's to many more ribbons to follow... |

Regal Reflectionby jenesisComment: I think I still owe you one more critique as your prize (not that I'll stop there): I'm going to make it this one.
Hits: This has an excellent feel to it. I like the choice to make it dark; the bird has a beautiful "glow". The bird and scene are captured with great clarity, and where there's light, the soft but pleasing colors work well.
Misses: I can't tell for sure if it's a night shot or a darkened day shot. If it's moonlight, which it does sort of look like, the viewer expects some more traces of it elsewhere, or at least a little more light on the surroundings. You might experiment with setting the levels just a little bit higher.
Overall: I really like this shot, and I'm surprised not to see a fancy L lens listed in the lens area, because the capture is terrific.
One other thing you might experiment with on this one: perhaps a crop to a square format, including only the lighter central twigs? Might look nice square! |

The Cloistersby amberComment: I was starting to comment on this as I was bumping final scores and didn't get to it--I started to feel guilty that I hadn't finished my Beauty entry (and I missed the deadline anyway).
This was one of my top pics for the challenge. I think you captured a wonderful scene, with great light. I think you might have tried a little more contrast, on the black side,, and you might have scored better--I think your tones are probably about right, but online, and here at DPC, people vote higher for "pop"! Likewise, cloning out the mark on the front beam might have gotten rid of a distraction. Keep up the good work, it is, and will be, recognized. |
