A Walk in the Gardenby waterliliesComment: The uneven, harsh light really hurts an otherwise well composed shot. The same photograph taken closer to dawn / dusk would have yielded a really great image. |

Stoicby TranquilComment: The strong shadow that shrouds the front of the hawk detracts from an otherwise solid image. A more diffused light source or a reflector to bounce some light back onto the bird would have helped push this up a point or two.

On Safariby SJCarterComment: This looks very oversharpened, but I love the expression. Something about the dumb but happy look on the ostrich's face and his placement in the frame makes it feel like a goofy kid just bobbed unexpectedly into the frame. The oversharpening is the only identifiable thing preventing me from rating this higher.

Seagullsby stormyComment: I'd like this much better if the details on the gulls weren't blown out. A bird landing / taking off would add a welcome point of interest to a peaceful but uneventful image. |

Flying Highby prbettsComment: I don't care for the soft focus on the bird; I would have preferred to see the bird sharply in focus, to contrast with the fuzzy clouds. The bird's proximity to the edge of the frame leads my eyes out of the picture in the bird's direction of movement. |

Vertical Takeoffby FalcComment: Great capture. The blurry foliage in the foreground is distracting, but I imagine that there wasn't a lot of time to recompose this shot. |

Ewwww What a stink!by lytaComment: The cropped body of the bird in the bottom right leads my eyes out of the image. The image would have been improved by more diffused lighting. |

Nesting Mother Duckby JutildaComment: Although the green nicely complements the colors of the duck, the way that the foliage occludes the subject more than negates the benefit. Perhaps a slightly different angle and a wider crop would have accomplished a similar result without the green blurs in the foreground. |
