Lunch Lungeby macmillanComment: Very cool, detailed photo! Love everything about this, except the framing. You might lose some points for it. If possible, you should have the bird in the opposite corner, so the viewer has the feel of seeing what the bird is seeing (or at least in that same direction). I'm not going to "nick" you any points for it, as I realize this would have been an extremely difficult shot. 10 Rob the Swash |

Hovering hummer...natures helicopter.. by jetstarComment: Very detailed, sharp as heck shot! (Envyous!!!) Must be a very fast camera, I've never gotten the wings to come so close to being stopped. Great pose. Lovely color! I hope you win, you're MY choice! 10 Rob the Swash |

Not an Eagleby ExcelsiorComment: Nice motion shot! Seagull is pretty solid, but it seems slightly out of focus. Too bad about the building in the lower right corner, it distracts a bit. I like the wing position, but it shadows the body more than I'd like. Seems just a bit grainy, too. 7 Rob the Swash |

Treecoptersby ImagineerComment: Cool, I thought about trying this, too (but didn't). Good sense of motion, but maybe a little faster exposure would have left the viewer a little detail to see. Sky seems slightly grainy, I only use ISO 100, to me, grain is bad. Framing is very nice. 7 Rob the Swash |

Stained glass butterflyby kostiaComment: Sharp, colorful picture! Hiding the strings might have given this a bit more into the flavor of this challenge (which I partly interpretted as getting motion, too, this has none). Good framing, though a bit too far off the right 1/3 mark. 7 Rob the Swash |

Welcome to Orlandoby NukktaComment: Good focus and framing (although a little more open space to the right might be good). Low on the drama/interest side (flames coming out of the engine, now we're talking!). Stronger saturation might have made the jet stand out more from the clouds (and given them more drama, too). 7 Rob the Swash |

Fishingby kosmikkreeperComment: Good clarity on the seagull's face while getting a strong sense of motion, too. The framing is questionable, it's usually more favorable to include more of what the subject is looking at. I always question monotone...so I'll ask why? 7 Rob the Swash |

Flight at Sunsetby sherryk471Comment: Very pretty picture, this is an alternate definition of Flight, IMO not really the definition the site was asking for, but I did think that motion was a big part of that spirit of definition. I think the sun is just a bit strong, darker would have lessened it's impact on the photo and made the horses more silhouetted. If you had caught either horse with all four off the ground, you could have made a very good case for hitting the challenge full on. 7 Rob the Swash |

Waiting To Be Refuelledby glimpsesComment: Nice shot. Couldn't tell you why the so many scored this a 5 or a 4, I would have gone at least 7, maybe 8, but I didn't vote this challenge. |

Peacefully waiting for death in the chilly air...by Everyday ReneeComment: Spectacular shot, Renee! The focus is very sharp! And the colors are so very rich. I can't see how this didn't score better. (didn't vote this one myself) The closest thing to a complaint I could see in this is the glare off his body, other than that, it's perfect. (I'll read the other comments...)
O.K. it seems most didn't "get it". I don't understand why people cannot vote each picture on it's own merits. (Saying it's cliche, or should have been in a recent challenge just aggrevate me.)
As for the background...this might have been a good shot for a really narrow DOF, say F-3 or F-3.2 or there abouts. Blurs out more background and so, adds emphasis on the subject. I like seeing the environment, but I guess photographically, it's not that good. |
