I was out pruning bushes when I found this guy. He didn't move. I thought he was dead -- even after I touched him. Once I got him in the sun, he moved a little better.

His life is surely on the clock...

Spectacular shot, Renee! The focus is very sharp! And the colors are so very rich. I can't see how this didn't score better. (didn't vote this one myself) The closest thing to a complaint I could see in this is the glare off his body, other than that, it's perfect. (I'll read the other comments...)
O.K. it seems most didn't "get it". I don't understand why people cannot vote each picture on it's own merits. (Saying it's cliche, or should have been in a recent challenge just aggrevate me.)
As for the background...this might have been a good shot for a really narrow DOF, say F-3 or F-3.2 or there abouts. Blurs out more background and so, adds emphasis on the subject. I like seeing the environment, but I guess photographically, it's not that good.

the sunlight is really harsh. kinda flattens the image, making it hard to distinguish between foreground and background, even with the dof. that grasshopper looks so menacing!! yikes. doesn't look like he's resting, looks like he's ready to pounce any second. 0_o

nice macro but I wish the background wasn't so cluttered.

Excellent photo of subject; however, the bright green leaf in the background is distracting. It pulls the eye past your subject.

A bit late for the insect challenge, but a nice grasshopper anyway.

nice macro, however I think you will be hurt by the fact of the recent insect challenge...good composition and colors
