The Call Of The Wild by jagarComment: Very nice image and a great finish.
I think the success of this image is in its balance of light and compositional elements making it more than the sum of its parts. |

spinby skewsmeComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Masterfully ambiguous, dancers, cyclists, a scooter, priests in cassocks, people on Segways - no idea (and a good thing that is too). The strong sepia works really well, as does the slight grain.
Critical stuff: Nope - I like the choices you have made.
Overall: An intriguing image. |

Here and Thereby MagnumphotographyComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I love how you made me read before I looked - steering my eye around your image with you crisp focus on the signs. I also really like the tri-partite nature of the image - the signs, the walking girls and the background scene. Great choice to go monochrome with this - it really adds to the feel.
Critical stuff: I might have been tempted to clone out the car bottom right.
Overall: Well seen, well composed, well executed. |

Positives: Such a pure and simple image; unfettered by superfluous choices or stylistic devices. Truly wonderful composition, great toning, excellent handling of the light and a great sense of being there.
Critical stuff: No
Overall: Perfect choice of monochrome. A really great image (I mean great as in significant). Utterly masterful. |

Positives: Lev, I saw this on 1x so I know this is yours. It's not going to stop me including it in this comment series though! What wonderful light - how it catches the dog's eyes is amazing; and their closeness - your two characters - is quite lovely. I really enjoy the 'through a window' framing too.
Critical stuff: Nope
Overall: Delightful image. |
