For the Jan 2012 Blur Side Challenge

I'm sure many of you have seen these jetties in some of bear_music's shots. I took this longer exposure in late December in anticipation of this SC. Do you notice the "perceptual" effect when looking at the horizon, particularly away from the jetty, it can seem like a vertical wall of water?

Added 1/21/12: This effect exists in real life, not just in photographs, in case this wasn't clear! My theory is that it occurs when the section of horizon we are seeing isn't connected to anything on either side. There is a spot here on Cape Cod where the first glimpse of the bay is from a high spot at a distance, and at that moment nearby trees and vegetation form borders on either side of the water, so you are looking at an isolated vertical slice of water. I see this effect there almost every time, and yet still get surprised by it!.

I love the richness of color in the water here. Really adds to the "painting". I also think this works as a cropped version without the jetty - with just the water to explore in its swirls and patterns.

For me, I thinkthe water has the qualities of a wall because the horizon does not blend into the sky, like the ocean often does. I like it.

A great scary effect especially because the colors are so bright. The waves getting closer and sweeping the world.

I especially like how the water on the rocks looks like and the swirl of water in the forefront, nice one.

This is very dynamic - the palpable movement of the ocean. I think it's the diagonals that give the sense of the horizon being the top of a huge swell.

The horizon looks closer than the end of the jetty. Amazed the horizon looks so clean with all the blur going on.
