The title is an obvious reference to Rembrandt, one of the greatest painters in European art history. I really like his self portraits, especially the use of warm tones, that work so well with oil on canvas. After looking at his work, I decided to try and create a modest tribute.

Lighting:
- Softbox + yellow gel on the subject's right
- Silver reflector on the subject's left
- Bowl + grid + orange gel for the backlighting
- Bowl + blue gel from behind the subject, from his upper left

There's lots of good in this, but the yellow was too much for my taste too. Rembrant is one of my favorite artists, and for that matter I did like the textured version on flickr a bit better. I also pulled this into PS and set the neutral point in a curves layer to about 3/4 the way up your collar (then dropped the opacity of that curves layer to about 75%), anyway, that looked a lot better IMO, and it balanced the blue a lot more. Actually, I didn't too much notice the blues before I did that. Hope that helps!
Classic pose also, except part of me really wants that to be a bubble pipe. Ha!

You're looking sallow. If you're trying to emulate a painting, I would suggest taking a lesson from silverfoxx. She has some excellent examples in her portfolio, such as

No prizes for guessing who this is ;-)

Top notch as always but for me the purple light doesn't add anything, having said that its still a quality portrait.
I like the version with the texture on flickr, now that's awesome.

The Baskerville's hounds are again on the loose, with the good light? Very effective lighting, as always. I perhaps like it even better with the texture layer you added in the other version, as it makes for a more unusual, more unexpected look.

it's a great shot..but your light colors throw me off. The hair light is a purple/blue and the rest of the shot has a yellow tint. They just don't really mesh together very well...but it is still nicely done 7.

Aristocratic Christophe! and a little yellow I think... the colour temperature differences front and rear are throwing me a bit.

Nice portrait, but the color seems a bit yellow. Was this intentional and if so what was the intent? 7 for now.

This is excellent. The yellow/blue lighting really adds to the mood of this perfectly setup shot.

I like the pose and the pipe. Not crazy about the blue back lighting. Then in contrast to the blue, the rest of the portrait seems too warm with a yellow hue.

Ha, Christophe! You're always gorgeous!

Totally LOVE the smoke!!
