Small amount of color correction together with tiny amount of hue/sat and levels. Then USM and finally added borders. Borders are simply layers at different brightness/contrast with a shadow effect thrown in to separate them.

Disaster .. lol ... I would definetely not go that far .. but I hate to say I agree with those who didn't like it. I love borders .. but I do like them kept simple. :) Mabye if you had the border that style but without transparency it would have been better...

Your photo on the other hand .. is just awesome! Stunning colors and excellent clarity. One thing I would have changed - the petal thats poking up from the bottom .. I would have moved it out of the way ;) Keep up the great work!

Let's see... out of 21 comments:

- 1 loved the border
- 2 did not mention the border
- 18 disparaged the border (one went so far as to call it a "disaster")

Okay, okay... live and learn. I'm now going to go up to the chalkboard and write one hundred times:

I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
I will not use borders
... 90 to go :-)

Like the detail and the great colors but the frame, while very nicely done, is just a bit to intrusive for me, transparent as it is.

My first imression when I saw this was - Cool, it looks like a flower on fire!

Nice classic shot... great colors. I would have preferred a simpler border.

I find the frame distracting, but otherwise this is a wonderful shot!

Bright vibrant colors - nice sharp focus. I don't think the border improves the photo - I think it distracks you from the beauty of the flower.

It's an interesting frame but I find it too distracting. It's a bit too dark overall for my tastes but I reall liked the way this is framed.

I love sunflowers but I am not sure the frame goes well. (i don't like picking on people's choice of frames sorry).

Cool shot, but too bad about those intruding petals on the bottom. I would have left out the border.

This is a great compositional approach. The frame might be a little bit overdone but the idea of the flower rising out of the bottom of the frame, suggesting sunrise to me, is exceptional.

Woderful specimen, colors, composition, lighting, and exposure. Could use just a bit more DoF - if that was possible. Although I won't take off any points - the border is a disaster.

These a great colors, and the close composition empashises them as does the contract with the vivid blue sky. You've got some nice detail about halfway up the petals, but the tips of the petals aren't as sharp - a greater DOF would make everything crisp - I'd also skip the frame - it is kinda neat, but the picture is even better.

I have no objections to frames, I do like them. But I have found that DPC people really hate them... expect a corresponding drop in score.

Great colors, too sophisticated border, top petals blurred. Good try anyway.
