Challenge: Vanishing Point (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Kodak DC290
Location: At home, New Iberia, LA
Date: Aug 9, 2004
Galleries: Humorous, Advertisement
Date Uploaded: Aug 9, 2004

I struggled with coming up with something that would demonstrate the concept. Of course, as I sit here tonight to edit, I am getting lots of ideas. I shot about 11 variations of this product and this one shot happened to get the flash reflecting off of the box. It appears the word Vanish is Vanising.

Thanks for the remarks...although critical most of them, I think you missed the point! I signed up for DP Challenge while the challenge began. The rating for 'Miniature' was beginning. I actually did a nice little shot of miniature, and then realized it was Vanishing Point I should have been working on, so I debated about where I would find such an image and just kept coming up blank. Sitting at work, I thought of this one. A bit way out of the box, yes. I enjoyed doing the challenge though. Harsh as the comments may be, I know the reality behind my decision to post the photo. It was a good effort in my eyes and the terrible flash was on purpose! I'm still trying to figure out how to post a 'normal' capture of this shot...the one without the flash. My Neon shot is doing much better! And, I almost put up a CLOSED neon sign too! ;-)

Don't be to concerned about the score. The challenge criteria is apart of the vote and some are very literal when voting.

Good luck in future challenges.

:-) Very out of the box! Humor and so many anal voters -- not a good mix.
08/17/2004 05:31:24 PM
Clearly no efforts were put into this work.
08/17/2004 01:30:09 PM
I guess it's creative, but it doesn't meet the challenge.
08/17/2004 02:56:17 AM
Too much glare from the flash, but a good photo none-the-less...
08/16/2004 11:05:36 PM
I'm guessing you're going for the Brown Ribbon.
08/16/2004 07:13:55 PM
Cute pun, but the description of the challenge was pretty specific about what meaning to give "vanishing point." It was all about perspective.
08/16/2004 04:02:12 PM
Yes that vanish is even vanishing.
08/16/2004 11:08:03 AM
clever play on words, but doesn't seem to fit the definitions set forth. Flash reflection detracts.
08/15/2004 02:07:32 AM
I don't get this at all. Terrible.
08/14/2004 04:33:59 PM
Unfortunately I don't feel this entry does what the challenge asks.
08/14/2004 09:50:27 AM
I would have given you a point for humor, but the flash attached to your camera glared out the funny part.
08/14/2004 12:27:50 AM
You dare to be bad!
08/14/2004 12:01:06 AM
I like the humor here but I only gave this a three because you shined the light in my eyes.
08/13/2004 12:06:24 PM
ha ha. I would have given you kudos for the thought if you got rid of the glare.
08/13/2004 04:20:22 AM
The glare of the flash on the box doesn't really do this image justice. Also the harsh shadow of the finger on the box reduces the quality of the photo.
08/13/2004 03:56:56 AM
good idea, i guess the dot on the I in vanish is your point :), but theres too much glare..
08/12/2004 02:56:05 PM
Flash is too too strong. Fried. :) Maybe you can try to cover it with some tissue, paper towel. Your focus is good and I think the idea is creative.
08/12/2004 01:05:18 PM
You seriously didn't notice the giant blob created by the flash...?
08/12/2004 09:25:11 AM
Ok, mildly funny idea, but what happend to the execution?
08/12/2004 04:12:00 AM
very good sharpness and crispness to the image, the details are amazing and not a grain of noise anywhere. could have used a bit of cropping to remove the unidentifiable background elements on the top and the right of the frame. Now back to the challenge at hand. its almsot like you are daring me to give you a low score with that title. For the technical merits of the photo i will give you a 7
08/11/2004 10:43:04 PM
Hehehe too bad the reflection almost vanises the vanish, but I think I get the point.
08/11/2004 05:50:17 PM
Cute idea.. no offense, but it doesn't look like you tried very hard. Get rid of that glare by using natural lighting rather than a flash and maybe position it more creatively.
08/11/2004 04:46:19 PM
Hmmm... Interesting take on the challenge.
08/11/2004 02:46:43 PM
Cute idea...too bad about the flash.

pointing vanish?
08/11/2004 09:41:19 AM
you should have used a light instead of the flash to get rid of the reflection on the box.
08/11/2004 09:32:27 AM
Flash on box is distracting to say the least.....I like the name of the photo and the concept is humorus
08/11/2004 08:05:03 AM
I don't think it meet the challenge requirements.
08/11/2004 06:29:21 AM
this is my first ever 1 I've given so I better explain myslef!
Whilst I appreciate the humor, I vote strictly on "meeting the challenge".
That, coupled with the fact that the photograph is poorly taken, is why I gave a 1,sorry.
I won't bother going into why the photograph is poor, I'm sure you know and if not, then I know a lot of other people will point this out for you.
08/11/2004 03:21:46 AM
nice joke, but that's not what i was expecting in this poll
08/11/2004 01:34:33 AM
no vanishing point
08/11/2004 01:24:08 AM
Sorry, I don't see the point...
08/11/2004 12:58:30 AM
Clever, but....
