I've been wanting to do one of these since I saw the work of these folks. When going through images I shot the other day I found a series of horse shots where they were both mainly standing still and staring at me, with the one moving its tail. Since I wasn't using a tripod when I took the shots I couldn't easily align the images. Instead, I used one base image then would add the next image on top, put a layer mask over the whole thing, then erase out just the tail portion and combine the two. I did that for each of the eight images/layers. To give the vintage look I applied Nik Color Efex Pro old photo filter, and added the film strip overlay. I did a version where the distressed markings in the film strip changed in each frame, like a real movie, but actually it was too busy and distracted from the tail. CS5 has an animation feature in Photoshop, check the Window menu. When you choose animation the controls come up, then from the menu choose ' make frames from layers'. You can set the lag time between frames, and frames in between, set it to loop, whatever. Then save to web as an animated GIF. This was fun! Definitely have to actually set one up using a tripod. Then you could just automatically align the layers in Photoshop.

Here's another one. Did it the same way because I wasn't using a tripod when taking the images.

You are just way too creative! :oD This is awesome. I just woke up and don't have barriers up yet, so I was completely delighted to see the tail move!

Love the rest of the processing, too.
