Not just an amazing freeze-action shot, and such an interesting capture of the cowboys, but such wonderful light. Great B&W processing and tonal range ~ carried over from your large format camera days, I expect.

Fantastic rodeo shot and well deserving of the HM if not a ribbon! Congrats on your personal best too! :-)

Thanks for all the kind comments, although I would have loved to place in the top three when I voted I knew with all the great shots this month it would be hard for any picture to place. This site has made me, while just learning Photoshop, up my game with every image I shoot. I’m an old large format film guy that now has to admit- this new medium (new to me anyway) is a blast. Thanks again.

Oh cool! Has the strong feel of one of Judi's rodeo shots, though I don't thin she often does them in B/W.

Hemingway would have introduced it in a story. Spectacular!

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Wow - extraordinary power in this image. This should be right up there in the ribbons. How the light plays on the hoofed-up dust is amazing. The angle of the bulls head and the sense that it powered right up there with a mere flick of its toes gives it a power of almost a cartoon nature. I really like how you've toned this too.

Critical stuff: Nope.

Overall: Extraordinary capture of an amazing moment.

Looks like a very difficult lighting scenario with harsh shadows, captured very well. Love the dirt flying up and the bull's pose that indicates the chaos and struggle captured only momentarily in the shot. Love the intensity on the faces of on-lookers, although one guys appears to be enjoying it too much :) A lot going on in the pic that makes me want to study it for a bit. Nicely done.

Nice action shot, and I even love how every single person is wearing a cowboy hat. I even love the light you captured in the dust the bull is kicking up.

Outstanding capture. Sharp, crisp, the tones are great, wonderful stop action. If this isn't Judi, take it as a supreme compliment. Excellent photo.

Giving this an 8... Here is my reason... Perfect black and white processing... Unfortunately the riders face is not in the photo. This in my opinion would have made me jump up to either a 9... Or maybe even a 10.
