This is a modified retake of a pic I had made a week or so ago. I really liked the warmth of the colors, and I tried to improve upon the composition a little bit.

Thanks for the comment on my guitar pic. I was trying for a sepia tone and didn't quite get the brightness/contrast set the way I wanted it. I think I'll take some more this weekend when I can get the guitar in better lighting.

I like your pic. Great detail on the bridge and pegs.

Critique Club Assignment:

Hi Nards!!
Okay,

Initial: Nice! I like how my eye "wooshes" into the deepest part of the photo following the lines of the guitar strings. I like the rich natural wood tones. (Personal thing).

Composition/Technical: The composition works for me. I think it is perfectly place/framed. The colors and detail are good. I think there is a bit of over-sharpening perhaps? Doesn't look grainy or dithered, just a bit stair-stepped especially around the knobs in the foreground, and a bit on the strings. The use of DOF is excellent.

Can't say I'd do anything else to this. I would only suggest to clean up the quality.. although it isn't horrible, just not 'perfect' ;0)

This is a great capture. Good color, great subject nice angel and framing. The lighting is just a little harsh for my taste, but it does add some interest to the shot by bringing out some additional grain in the wood. Nice work 8 - Gotcha

Dead on focus and good DOF. With this type of subject, why do you have anything at all in the background? I scroll down and eliminate the background and then your picture pops.

I love your choice of camera angle. The photo doesn't grab me, but I appreciate the thought you put into it. Many people would benefit from considering angles and composition this way. I can imagine this on the cover of a book.

Cool composition, very nice angle. Focus is great. I don't quite like that reflection on the top right corner. Good luck!

This is really nice. Very good depth of field. Sorry to ask, but what are the two smears on the (I think it's called) bridge? (The dark brown piece where the strings are anchored). A touch of glare, but nothing horrible. 8 Swash

A good photo. I think it had been better if the background (up left an center) had been darker. Good focus and composition.

great perspective and depth of field on this guitar... The only think I may have done differently here would have been to completely was out the background that is visible in the upper left corner... great shot :) - setzler

Very interesting perspective on this beautiful instrument. Too bad about the hot spot bottom left and the reflection in the top right. Great photo though! - 8

Beautiful. Being a guitar player myself, I really like the shots like this. I have 2 very small, minor complaints. There is a reflection of something in the upper right corner, and the background in the upper left is a tad out of place here. Otherwise, focus and clarity are great, lighting is great, and the angle and framing/cropping really make this shot. Good luck in the challenge.

Very fine use of lines and diagonals. I like how the strings are diagonal in one direction and the bridge (?) is diagonal in another, and they meet at the focus point. This is a very strong photograph. Good luck!

Firstly, the colours feel very orange/red, which may have been due to your lighting or the WB of the camera. Secondly, there doesn't seem to be a focal point - this would have been a good opportunity to use a shallower DoF to highlight one part of the guitar. Also, if the shot was rotated anti-clockwise (or counter-clockwise if you're american), the strings could have led the eye from the top left corner down into the image.

That all said, I do like this shot :o)

Great closeup. I would however had found a less busy background for the upper left corner. That is the only thing holding this photo back. Well done otherwise.

Very nice! I love the color of the guitar body, and I'm amazed at the lack of DUST on this! It's so clean!

What an interesting angle! Good lighting, interesting composition, and I love the repetition of the different forms, as well as the light and dark tones. I also like your border. It sets the photo off well without overwhelming it. Moderate emotional impact for me, but nevertheless a terrific shot. 8. lhall

Nice clarity, and colour. The intended compostion would have been great if you blacked out the background (upper left conner) and reduced reflections (upper right conner). Otherwise great.

I don't like that there is background here. I think I would've cropped it out completely, or if it was interesting enough, like backstage or something, shown it a little more. Good crisp clear photo though. The quality is definitely there. - Inspzil

Great shot. I like the composition, and the cropping is nice. The only flaws (which might be in the guitar itself) is that mark to the left of the strings on the wood, and a spec of dust in the back section on the right. none the less excellent picture.

I think this is the best of the previous instrument shots on DPC. I would not change anything.

this is very cool. if you diffuse your light source more, it might make it better. don't be afraid to let there be shadows, also. mag99.

Lovely perspective. Softer light and perhaps a longer exposure would tone down that blast on the left. Well done.

Great colors. My only comment is that the glare in the upper right of the shot is a tiny bit distracting. Really nice detail here.
