Challenge: Black & White IV (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Challenges 2011
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
Location: San Pedro
Date: Apr 3, 2011
Aperture: f/4
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/800
Galleries: Black and White
Date Uploaded: Apr 3, 2011

Took the little Lumix out on a bike ride today. Completely forgot that when you pick the scene mode (was using the HDR B&W setting) you don't get the corresponding RAW file. Drat. That's the other camera...

So I have this jpeg file. Ran it through one of the Nik color thingies anyway (tonal contrast) then through Nik Silver Efex Pro 2. Why? I just bought the software - have to use it! Next time I'll remember to set the camera to the RAW plus jpeg setting. Duh.

Oh - this is down a quiet road somewhere in San Pedro near but not at Points of Call. If you look carefully there's an abandoned pair of shoes.

Sub-5 at the moment. Come, now. It's not THAT bad. Is it?

I need professional help. :-)

Better title: Attendant

I still like this. And it is still sub-5. No one has noticed the shoes. Or that it says "No Parking" right in front of a painted parking space. Or, apparently, that it is indeed in black and white! There's that!

By the way, the shoes are in that first parking space, one right at the end of that painted line below the "P" in parking. Hard to see at DPC size, though.

I REALLY need professional help. It is several months later and I STILL like this.

that tree crosses boundaries.

The Tree of Art.

I think you were robbed on this one, Deb.
I love how synthetic nearly everything feels. The giant containment buildings, the wall, parking lot (confusingly labeled with no parking), barbwire, gates... even the flowerbed feels fake, put there to meet an end. The tree is the only thing that feels alive, reaching off away from the scene.
I like how the white line cordons it off, as well.

You said there are shoes??? I've... well... I've looked at this several times... and well... Golly.

I'm embarrassed. *sigh*

Yet still... this is SUCH a cool shot.

Shoes?? Really!? *sigh again* ....

Must confess I didn't see the shoes either until I read your comments :( even when I put my glasses on! Sorry it didn't do better.

The shoes are right under the "P", undie...

Deb, this sort of met the same fate as mine. It's a very nice shot in a classic genre of black and white "observation", and it got lost in a sea of drama and flash. RIP.

I like it very much.

I don't see any shoes.... for small detail, I find a bird above that exotic, tropical California tree that will never shed it's leaves.
I think a good observation and super good b&w - canned "Nik" though it may be - it has a special look. v9

something's wrong or something's missing because that looks like a parking space to me!

I like the tones of this shot. It would have been funny to put a car in that spot.

Man versus nature. A competition in very slow motion. Love the geometry here.

What a scene. Shapes constrained and chaotic. Impressive manipulation of a scene through composition. 8

I REALLY like this! Nice capture. That tree look surreal.

This stands out so nicely from the rest. It's "quirky" :-)
