The strange pose was the models idea (my daughter)below is the link to the image that my daughter wished to replicate. The image went down well with her friends.
Looks like she is about to cry.... what did you do to her?! I would have preferred if the hand was doing something different... maybe folded slightly and resting her chin on her knuckles would look more natural.
I know it was a conscious choice, but that hand is just taking over an otherwise wonderfully quirky portrait. It's all about the hand, and it's not that great a hand.
The lighting and framing are quite good, but that is a very awkward pose. her face says quite reflection and her hand seems to be in the middle of a rude gesture or a phrase of ASL.
