The narrow DOF was intentional. Trying to go for an unusual view.

Focus is meant to be on that part of the trumpet because thats the part you blow, hence the title.

This is a nice perspective of the trumpet but I think that the DOF would have been better for this shot having the entire trumpet in focus. But thats just my opinion.

Your title makes this all the more appealing! I think brass instruments always make excellent subjects, and I love how you have this sort of suspended in space.

I like the composition and coloring in this.

I like the different colors reflected in the instrument and like the use of the small DOF. The subject matter doesn't hold my interest for very long though. I would have liked a bit more light on the mouthpiece. = 6

Neat perspective. I'm a HUGE fan of shallow DOF (just check my previous entries!), but I wish it had been just a BIT wider here.

very nice composition and perspective on this photo... the shallow depth of field works very well here and it isolates the mouthpiece well. The lighting is a bit strange, but i think that is what sets this photo apart... great shot :) - setzler

Nice use of DOF.I would have liked to see a little more light on the mouthpiece. Nice angle.. kind of an uncommon approach. I like that. JD

Crazy shot! Interesting perspective, but hard to view. 7 Swash

Very nice... GREAT use of DOF. Excellent orangey colour - lighting spot on.
How did you get those weird traffic light blobs at the back?

Gorgeous colours and lighting. I like your shallow depth of field, it really lifts this photo. The subject doesn't inspire me greatly, but your treatment of it is masterful.

Sometimes a shallow dof works well. In this case I'd prefer to see more of the subject in focus. The bg is good here and provides good contrast, and the lighting and exposure are fine. More detail in focus would greatly add to the appeal of this image.

This looks like its been lit by a Christmas tree or some disco lights or something ;o) The shallow DoF is great, but the blown out highlights are a bit distracting. The rich colour contrasts well against the black background, and the framing is good.

This picture works really well as an abstract shot. I'd be interested to see the same shot with your light source moved to different angles around the trumpet.

Interesting idea. I like the DOF. I wish what is in focus was a little sharper though.

This is a cool shot. I wish the DOF was deeper to get a bit more detail in the triggers. I like having some shallow DOF, but this may be a tad much. The colored lights reflecting off of the bell is a nice touch.

I like the DOF, it really draws your eye to that one area. :)

Interesting composition, personally for my taste I would have used a very deep DOF to keep the whole subject in focus; but you probbaly did the oposit on purpose (which works great too). Just a difference in taste; great job.

I don\'t care for the lighting in this one. The mouth piece could have been lit a little more and in focus a tad beter I think. It\'s an interesting angle, but hte lighting takes away from the picture in my opinion.

great use of DOF and lighting. Good Luck

good background and point of focus. i like the different colored highlights on the bell part of the horn.
12/09/2002 07:31:56 PM
fantastic perspective. like the color choices, and the DOF.
12/09/2002 05:24:03 PM
Neat perspective. Might of focused a little more of the horn, but this is cool.
12/09/2002 03:36:03 PM
Do I see Christmas lights reflecting in the horn? LOL I enjoy the DOF in this image -- and the way it seems to be floating is well done as well.
12/09/2002 01:15:53 PM
I really love this point of view on the trumpet. It looks like it's floating. I think the depth of field works really well also. And the different colored 'disco ball' effect adds some interest :-)
12/09/2002 08:11:18 AM
I think this really needs a deeper DOF to make the image effective.
12/09/2002 12:13:01 AM
Nice use of DOF. I like the nicely focused mouthpiece, and the soft focus body. The extra added color is nice as well. Looks like you took the shot near your christmas tree. :) The very top edge of the mouthpiece looks a tad strange. not sure if it's a reflection, or something that happened in post processing. angle and framing/cropping are great. good luck in the challenge.
