Both are great and are strong compositions. This one has some nice elements that the other does not. The surfer is smaller in this shot thus showing that he part of an even larger universe. His pose, like the other, is contemplative; gazing out at the larger world. The lighting shows off some golden hues of the mountains/hills to the right. My eye instantly traveled to the surfer in the bottom right and then slide to the backdrop that has the pier. The pier acts like a leading line that directs our attention back to the sea and what the surfer may be reflecting upon.

This one is great. I like your entry slightly more just because I love a good dramatic sky and the reflection is a bit better, but this one is amazing too. Its fun to see the different processing and what it can do to an image.

Gorgeous sky and reflections in both shots, and both are beautifully composed. I think comparing the two your entry has the edge, but this one is really nice too.

Beautiful clouds and I like the surfer to create that minimalism type feel.

Isn't it amazing how much a grouping of clouds adds to an image?

I think I may like this one more than your entry as well. It feels more dwarfing. The clouds spreading, the coastline petering out into the distance, getting crushed by that sky. The lighting on the cliffs is very nice too. I remember visiting there, when I was just really getting an interest in photography, and wish I knew what I know now; it's a nice area.

Oh Lev. This was taken in January. Do you know how much I dream of seeing scenes like this again, instead of white as far as the eye can see? envy is not a good quality I know, but I am surely envious that you can capture this sort of scene at this time of year. Sigh. The sky is gorgeous and such wonderful reflections.

Looks like he's waiting patiently for a wave.

The reflections add so much to the image - very serene.

There is much to think about in this beautiful image. Why is the surfer sitting in the calm pool? Is he gathering courage or scoping out the waves? Is he taking a break? Or is he just awestruck as I am at the beauty of the sea and sky, the light and the reflections?

Beautiful... even better than the ribbon-winner.
