Challenge: Layers (Advanced Editing VII*)
Collection: 2010
Camera: Canon EOS-50D
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Location: Fort Worth Stockyards
Date: Dec 28, 2010
Aperture: F5.6
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/25
Date Uploaded: Dec 28, 2010

One of the buildings that compromised the Swift Meatpacking plant in the Fort Worth Stockyards. The plant shut down in 1971. Sometime in the next few years a fire started and burned until it expired on it's own from decades of accumulated animal fat. An effort to destroy the complex broke several wrecking balls, and the remains of the complex still stands.

I'm very pleased with how this came out, except for the angle looking up at it. I would have preferred a view that was more straight-on, but the location of this did not provide anywhere I could get a better perspective.

Anticipated critiques:
-I can't use a border without at least one comment that dislikes it. Even a simple one such as this.

Just received the anticipated critique of the border. bohemka gets a SpiffyPoint™ for leaving that predicted comment.

I'd agree with the border comment (you already have a light coloured surround to the shot in the site's colour scheme), it may look a bit better if you put a black "stroke" on the edge so the image doesnt bleed into the border (see light patch on the edge at lower 3rd on left hand side, and general light patches of grass at the bottom) - or you could just use the site's 1px "stroke" and pack more of a punch with more photo...

Great shot and well spotted. Lose the border though. I want this as big as possible. Nice shot.

Excellent framing in this shot! If you asked someone to describe it, I think they'd inevitably use the word "layers" at some point. :)

Terrific urban fragment. Maybe just a bit oversaturated.
