Ok, so here's the story...

Some of you have probably guessed that I want to someday ribbon with a seagull. (you've probably never heard that before...) So I had this wonderful idea of baking blue ribbons, holding them up and getting a shot of the seagull taking the ribbon, or better yet flying off with the ribbon. I baked three test ribbons out of pizza dough, thought they looked stupid and put them aside for a day.

The next day, I figured why not try it anyway? I borrowed my husband to feed the seagulls and went to the ferry.

In order to feed the seagulls, you must take the ferry across the river. It's about 1-1.5 hours round trip to take the ferry across the river and back. I brushed the blue ribbons with tuna fish juice from a can of tuna fish, hoping that they'd be more interesting to the seagulls.

The line was too long for the first ferry, so we didn't make it on, and had to wait about 1/2, in line, for the next ferry. Once on, we tried holding up the ribbon, but they weren't overly brave that day, so it didn't work. One by one my husband threw the 3 ribbons up in the air, trying to frisbee them so that I could get a shot of the ribbon and the seagull. One seagull caught the ribbon, but I didn't get the shot. There was this shot, but it wasn't interesting enough.

There was this shot, and I would have gone with it immediately, if only the ribbon had been turned just a little more!

Since I figured I didn't get anything, I started doing shots with a longer exposure -- trying to get a more abstract dreamy feel. I really like this shot, though I don't expect it to be universally received.

oh wow!! Last day and it's been amazing in the last couple of hours -- the equivalent of six 9s and 4 8s! Not enough to pull into the elusive seagull ribbon category -- but still terribly exciting! It must be because everyone is eating all the halloween candy. We should have halloween every day!

I would have cropped more off the top, but I still love this, how the wing melts in with the clouds. Oldie but goodie. :-)

Love your backstory - so clever to create your ribbons that way lol. I gave this an 8 so I was hoping this would finish higher. It's so beautiful! Congrats on 5th place!

if you could get some extra credit points for the amount of work you put in for this shot, you would probably have the blue. very nice shot.

I didn't vote this challenge, but when I saw this one I thought it had to be yours. Lovely non-sharp blur-including semblance of a dream! Congrats! (And the clouds backed you up perfectly, too.)

This is classic dream symbolism - nicely taken and presented. I like images with a strong connection to the competition theme.

Nicely done! I love the blue, the movement, and how the clouds seem to echo the movement of the wings. 10

I feel this one could do quite well - its certainly DPC friendly and not as daring as some of the other shots - however you are up against some tough competition. 7

This is a great photo, I like the movement and how the wings seem to dissolve themselves into the clouds.
