Wow. Photographing jewelry is hard!

I wish this was an "advanced editing" challenge so I could remove the reflection; at first I thought it would be kinda cool, but now I'm thinking it is just distracting...

I wanted to use blue as the accent color for the platinum/diamonds, so I put the ring on a piece of glass and put a (fake) blue rose underneath. I propped the ring up with a small bit of eraser; any more elevation and the eraser became visible in the picture.

Taken with the Canon 100mm/ƒ2.8 Macro lens with circular polarizer hand-held in front of the lens (my CircPl is 77mm, and I don't have a step-up ring. D'oh!)

It's a great concept and a good shot. The only issue is the reflection on the surface you placed this ring and the central diamond being slighty out of focus.

good, reflection must be on photo

With bold, white text messaging a perfect slick magazine shot

You needed perfect focus on ALL the diamonds for this to be effective (almost!), the front diamond is out of focus a little.

For the most part, nicely done! Only suggestion is to bring the diamonds into a little more focus - the middle one doesn't seem as sharp as it could be. I like the blue background!

Good Clarity on the diamonds, a little blur on the center one, and I'm not crazy about the reflection under it...But still a good shot. -7

color is great, very luxurious atmosphere. But the focus is off, the middle diamond is not in focus.

The best jewlery shot in the challenge.

Lighting and focus could be improved a bit.

too dusty, you should have cleaned the ring first
the composition in good, the colors and light are pretty good too

Reflection below the image is not good. I think the ring on velvet or something would be better, or something that doesn't reflect. Otherwise nice & sharp. perhaps a little tightly cropped left & right
07/09/2004 12:49:31 AM
Contrast would be better if the ring was proped up just a hair.

this is very nice. However, the reflection underneath the ring somewhat distracts from the ring itself.

Love the lighting and the backgoround. Only thing that I think would have made it more effective is if you had the ring tilted instead of flat on the table.

Excellent.

The blue and silver work great together!! I'm not crazy about the ring's reflection, but the overall effect is still great! (10)
