Clearly, the first thing that caught my eye was the dramatic contrast of the flames against the blackness. The small aperture was very effective in capturing a fairly wide depth of field so that we can appreciate the sharp details of the figures and the burning wood. Honestly, I'm not sure what I would change. Someone mention having a preference for a faster shutter speed to be used but I disagree. I would not want the flames to be frozen anymore then they are. The slightest bit of motion blur only adds to the effect of rapidly moving flames and the parts that are sharp adds to the edgy contrast. The cropping is excellent in the way that the bottom of the photo begins as solid black leading up to the figures and then the way that the flames extend into the top of the photo creating the effect of extending much higher into the night. There appears to be some communication going on between the two men by the way the man on the left is looking in the direction of the other. There is a naturalness that is believable rather then looking posed. All in all this adds up to a powerful and interesting photo.

Dramatic. Love the silouettes against the fire. Was a bit faster shutter speed possible? One of my fav's this week!

Well captured and well exposed - great silhouettes.
Compositionally I'd shave a little bit off the left side.

I like it very much but I think it will not do so good in a newspaper in b&w. But on the frontpage of a magazin it will be just great. Interesting composition. /carsten

You can't go wrong with a fire pic for PJ, and I like the silhouettes you've made here. Great catch.

This is my favorite. It's an excellent photograph, and a true photojournalism shot. Great silhouette. No suggestions unless you could have possible shown more of the flames going up. 10 ~indigo997

I really like this one; it is the first one to really jump out at me so far this week. Exposure looks good and the color is quite nice against the black background. The silhouettes are a very nice touch.

Nice image. I can see this on a cover somewhere.

I think you may have either oversharpened or added too much contrast.. your edges are glowing a reddish colour and it's not from the fire

good strong silohettes. Wish I could spell that word. This is an extremely apt photojournalistic entry for any paper in the Texas area this week. Good work.

oh wow, this is awesome. great tie-in to that terrible, yet surreal-ly humorous occurrence. good fire texture. not blurred. wonder what settings you used? mag99

Use flash next time and balance the ambient and flash exposures to show expression in the subjects faces, rarely will an editor ask for a silohuette

This is one of my favorite shots for the challenge. I think the title may have taken some imagination away from the viewer. But without question a nice shot is a nice shot. Good Luck with this, it will do well. – 10 Gotcha

I wonder if there was a way to adjust the camera to capture the flames details without the blur? otherwise this is really nice
