You've framed this well, though you are quite far away from the subject. As you were trying to show the US & Japanese working well together, it would have been great if you'd got a clear shot of the two flags flying together. I like how you have framed this with the bouy's across the bottom of the shot.
Technically, there is some strange discolouration in the upper right and left of the shot which detracts, and unless the sky actually was grey that day, it seems overexposed. Overall the subject is a bit unclear and confused because of the many potential things in the frame to look at. Is the point the submarine, or the ships, or the masts ? I think if you could have gotten closer and simplified the picture a bit it might have been clearer what the subject of your picture was. Hope that is useful. |

I really like the shot. I really dislike the title. Shot is very clear and good composition. |

The overall grayish cast of this washes out the detail. This might be better in black and white with some more contrast added in to expose more detail. muckpond |

Very dramatic, and I think the vignetting from the teleconverter actually adds something here. A small + gamma adjustment would help to bring out the detail in the... conning tower?... on the sub, but I do like the darkish overall effect. |

A very sensitive subject, and very newsworthy. Obviously you have an inside line that many do not. Good shot, well composed without showing too much. Any security violation by posting this on the net? :-) Don't let the Homeland Security force catch you! LOL. 8 nards656 |

Hmmm. The water looks very unsettled to me. This shot really needs to be closer. What is your focal point. The Sub the ship or the Guy. I am lost

Interesting to say the least. Good shot. Nice focus. Not too sure about the colorization. Would have liked it in full color. Nice title. PTL8 But this is cool. I like it. This is so unique. With 2 sons in military service I guess I'm drawn to this. After looking quite a few times it really does deserveanother point, if only for my sons. |

Yes, it looks like Yokohama 1940. I gave three years of my young life to defeat that hated rising sun flag. |

Funny color to the left----outer right edge also...looks black&white <?> Sky is washed out to white. Still the shot has an impact, really makes ya think...WAR. Justine |

Composition: Subject Placement, Cropping, Background9, Technical: Focus, Exposure, Lighting, Processing7, Appeal: Is it Interesting, Motivating, Etc.? 7, Total Averaged Rating8. Autool IMO the relationship between the title and picture are key elements in this challenge. This is all too real. Good shot.

Humorous - the Japanese flag transformed once Japan surrendered at the end of WWII. They removed the sun's rays from their flag since they believed that the sun did not shine on their empire any more. This must be a museum-style exhibit, is it? Nice shot 7 Morgan |

The composition is a bit messy. I'd rather see the whole antenna-mast in the frame and less water in front of the sub. The ship behind the tower of the sub seems to point towards the southwest corner of the frame, I think that another angle (shoot from a point more to the left) to capture that ship and the subs could be more interesting. |
