Nope, it's not just a picture turned upside down. I thought it looked like a mop or a broom, so I placed it this way on the table top. It smashed down the petals too much, so I put a top to a cough syrup bottle under it. Played with the lighting to get the hairs on the stem to show up.

Anyway, I wanted to see if I could take something normal and turn it more toward fine art. There are some incredible artists on this site that can do exactly that. I don't think I succeeded, but this is a stretch for me, so it was nice to stretch.

Yep another beauty I like to see thisin a tighter square crop but I love the color and clarity.

Love the fact that you composed this upside down. Great color and vibrance here.

One of the "weird = fine art" efforts I think, or submitting that an everyday subject photographed in an unusual manner will equal fine art. I'm not so sure about that. Technically interesting, with pleasing light; the big black block does nothing for me, and I would have preferred seeing something more restrained back there, a neutral background filled with the soft shadow of the flower, and texture, as of film grain. A restrained split tone in blue would have been lovely too.

My canned response: whatever one's definition is of fine/contemporary/modern art, I think this entry is too much like business as usual at DPC. In this case: a flower photo. I think it is gorgeous, with great color and clarity, and I like how the stem is lit. I'd have no problem giving it high points in a free study. Still, I give you points for turning it upside down. :-)

Would I hang it on my wall. Perhaps, I like the idea. I judge on what I would hang in my apartment. However, I would like to see this smaller and in a "large" frame. Just like good art should be. I give you a positive 6
