It has really been a while since I photographed a butterfly , probably more than 1.5 years. Nothing special , just a straight shot with my Nikkor 105mm at F20 , hand-held , noon lighting.

the more i look at this the better i like it .. things that i didnt notice in voting i notice now .. thought this would ribbon for sure .. i love the way the butterfly and his antennae form a line dividing the image in two .. i love the incredible details especially on his wings .. they look like the underside weave of a persian carpet .. i spose that's his proboscis coming out .. ? .. awesome shot .. :)

Detail is exceptional. A deeper DoF would be nice to get at least the foreground antennae in focus, as well as keeping the left midleg/tarsus in the frame.

Great closeup. Wish for more setting for a "garden" photo.

detail in the wings is awesome. the only thing that detracts is the apple or fruit or whatever on the bottom. you cropped so much that now i want to see what this bug is eating.

great focus and technically sound photo.
