I really don't have anyone to take a formal portrait of so this is the best I could do. I know people don't like "Pet" pictures but pet portraits is a real form of photography. So I hope it does well.

Very nice portrait. I had a minature dachshound, but she passed away this past winter. This shot reminds me of her = )

i am shocked to see it finished like it did... oh well, it's still a great portrait and you know it! what a face!

Wonderful DOF... excellent saturation, really well framed too.

I love the focus on the dog's face - it pulls you into the picture. - 8 -

Interresting use of shallow DOF here. Makes the weiner dog look even longer somehow! Nice lighting, but the catch light in the eyes is a little too much. Nicely done pet portrait!

Sorry, not a person, but:

Lighting: Well lit with an expressive catchlight.
Pose: Works well for the subject.
Background: cluttered, the lines cutting through the model, particularly at the head are disstractive.

Lighting, focus, angle are all pretty good. At first I found the blurred line in the background (counter's edge?) a distraction and thought it would look better with a smooth gradient, but since it's right on a line with the eyes I guess it may also serve to draw the attention there ... it would be interesting to try evening out the BG to see how it looks.

Nobody said a portrait had to be of a human! Nicely done, but doesn't have a studio feel because of the sofa in the background. A 6, would be an 8 or 9 with a better background.

I don't think it's a studio portrait of a person. Interesting image though.

As good as this portrait is, I can't award you full credit due to the fact that the instructions specifically stated to shoot a portrait of a person. Sorry! :o)

Ahh, a person in dog's clothing! That aside, I think the fore-paws need to be in the picture--perhaps a less limited depth of field. And I don't think the baseboard hides enough for me to get the "studio" feel asked for in the challenge.

beautiful smile, gorgeous eyes, LOOKs like my uncle Louie, but im not sure he's human either.

you've captured a very sweet expression on her face. Lovely focus and colours on her head. For a portrait I would have liked it if her face had filled more of the frame, also find the line on the background behind her head a little distracting.

Good use of DOF. Background is a little busy (though the blurring helps.)

lol. This shot just rocks. I love how just his head is in focus. Thanks for sharing. Jacko. 10

SO cute. there nothing wrong with portraits of doggies, and this is especially well done. i love that his face is so sharp, and the background less well-defined - gives a conception of real depth. not entirelt sure you've conveyed a taken-in-the-studio type shot, but in all, very nice. also, perhaps a smidgeon too much couch is visible at the top (slightly tighter crop needed). still, a cute and characterful shot. 7.

Fabulous cute and different take on this challenge. One of my top 10 favorites. Love the color scheme and DOF. 9

nice sharp focus on the face...I tried to photograph a dog of this breed, and I found it difficult......the head kept looking distorted compared to the rest of the long short body...I like the angle and your approach here

Well, he's smiling :) The background is a little distracting.

This is a very good demonstration of depth of field! The focus on the dog's face enhances the "What's that over there?" look in his eyes.

A beautiful cat in nice lighting. Focus on the eyes is perfect. (If you can call a dog a person, I can call it a cat.)

Funny looking "person"! Cute dog, though. I dunno, I wish the DOF was greater. But I will admit, that's a killer facial expression!

Sorry I don't consider dogs to be persons. Nice shot though, I like the shallow DOF

Maybe with a bit more DOF it would have rated higher

Lower half of image distracts. If he/she was sitting, then lower could be cropped effectively.
Unfortunately, challenge calls for a portrait of a person.

This little fellow is the cutest of the entire entry, however, I would included his feet by encreasing the dof.

His (her?) head is beautiful in focus and the eyes are very telling. Too bad that the body is very much out of focus. I would have liked a deeper DOF, or a different crop from just the head.

Despite the fact that the challenge clearly stated the photo should be of a person, I think this is a great shot. The lighting is very nice and the catchlights in his/her eyes are wonderful. I do think that his/her whole body should have been in focus instead of just the head. Had the subject only been a person, I would have scored much higher.

Good DOF, good focus on the face, good portrait. Dogs can be persons too.

Doesn't meet the challange of talking a picture of a person
Good luck though

Love your picture, I can tell this doggie loves you. I can see it in the eyes. Great shot and I won't slam you for not being a person because I believe he is part of a family and therefore this is a family member portrait. 10

You're going to get nailed because it's "not a person" and therefore, "Doesn't meet the challenge" comments. Well, you know what I say to that? "PTHLBTHLBTHLBTHLB!" This baby is adorable and is just as human, if not more than most people I know! I love the expressive eyes but the DOF hurts this shot to me. I know they are long dogs (I have one myself) but they aren't that LONG, LOL! Excellent capture, an 8

I'm sure you've had everyone quoting directly from the challenge description noting the word..."Person" .....so I'm sure you'll understand why I must vote you low even though it's a nice portrait of a nice doggy.

Cute dog. I would've tried to get the rest of the dogs body in focus and blur everything else. Good lighting.

Great dog portrait, not sure if people will like it because it isn't a human, but its a great shot of a dog. Great DOF/focus, good lighting. Could be a bit bigger, but no issue. Nice job.
