I prefer portraits that reveal something about the subject. Often, forced smiles can obscure what comes thorugh naturally. I do have some smiling portraits, but they are the exception rather than the rule. I don't set out to take a portrait with the subject not smiling, but the when selecting the best image from a session, these are more often than not the ones I chose.
