i thought that flies started out as maggots that are 'born' .. it looks like this fly has eggs attached to its body ..
i have no idea whether they are its flies waiting to hatch, altho they seem to be in a strange place, or some weird & colourful cancerous growth .. !!
if anyone knows i'd love to hear ..:)

I never thought something could be so revolting and beautiful at the same time.

I like the radial geometry here formed by his wings and legs. That and the off-center framing give it real impact. Very nice!

those are the real colours too .. i didnt change them in photoshop ... and the fly was hiding, sort'v inside a leaf .. difficult to photograph because i wasnt really high enough to get a good angle ..
after robert Bear_Music's info i'm wondering how long the fly carries the eggs around like that .. fascinating stuff .. !!..;)

Some types of flies do carry their eggs until they hatch, yes. And some types of fly eggs are orange. In fact, there's a fishing fly pattern that emulates a fly carrying orange eggs, I forget the name of it now. Furthermore, some flies actually carry the eggs INSIDE their bodies until the hatch into maggots, then expel the maggots directly instead of laying the eggs. So there's a lot of approaches in the insect kingdom...

Haven't a clue.. probably fly eggs. Interesting colors and detail. I'm going to have to borrow Eric's 100mm lens and experiment except there aren't any insects in Dec. Might have to wait 'til Spring.
