Doesn't really illustrate CHOICE, to me. Seems like a cut-and-dried suicide pic, if there is such a thing. In other words, he doesn't look like he's still debating the choice. His mind is made up. Anyway, background blends too much with the subject (where are his eyes and arms and such?) Seems out of focus as well

This is a disturbing subject and I think the composition choices made here add to the disturbance. The black space looming over the top of the subject, the inability to see the eyes, and the blurred subject all make the overall impact more urgent. I think the photographer has really captured the lonliness and desperation of the subject matter.

Too dark. The whole top half just looks like a black blob.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to tell you that it's too dark to understand the subject. This happened to me on one challenge I entered. Don't let it discourage you. Keep shooting! (umm...so to speak....shoot photos please!)

yes.

Very heavy!

Disturbing but well executed (pardon the pun!). Looks a tad blurry to me, and grainy as well. Perhaps a little tighter crop (not so much darkness at the top) would add more drama (not that there isn't enough already). Also - the hand and face look a little too pale and washed out. I think this would work in black and white as well. Tough subject matter.

what the hell?

You can barely see the kid's face. It's like he's nobody, which is undoubtedly how he feels. "Split" also fits...

Awesome idea and exellently executed. Maybe could have been a little bit more clear but that must be difficult with the low exposure. Still an 8.

This image showed too dark for me to see anything.

creepy.

I got the same idea.... but think it was too "on the dark side"... i give credit to original idea, but you must have a good picture too... it a picture contest ! a1

very nice execution of idea.

Exposure is way off, subject is blurred. I don't really see emotion in this either. I'm afraid I see this as a failed attempt at a very controvertial cliche.
06/16/2004 11:05:38 AM
how often do you make this choice?
06/16/2004 08:22:46 AM
Unfortunatley, I feel that this will probably win the brown ribbon. The photo is dark and out of focus... which may have been done on purpose, but it doesn't come across like it was. Also, this type of photo never seems to do well because voters seem to get easily offended by suicide... go figure.

too dark, can't judge it
06/16/2004 03:34:00 AM
a good depiction of the theme - choices. The mood is dark but your photo is too dark - youcould have still got your message across with more light on th subject. perhaps you could have just lit the gun? given 6/10

let me know what decision was made ;-)
