Shaka is hooked on almonds from Trader Joe's which are coated in a hot pepper and lemon powder. We've been using them to try and teach her to actually say, "nut," which I *think* she's doing on her own, but not when we ask her to ;-)

Shaka is an adoptee, here since July. She is unbelievably sweet for a Grey and has almost never bitten anyone. She did bite my husband, twice, but ... he must have done something to deserve it ;-)

She has also learned to "go potty" on request. That is SUCH a useful thing for a free-flighted parrot to know!

Shaka is a beautiful bird. Your portrait is fantastic. I love the dof, and the background is perfect for this shot.

its a brilliant shot mary .. she's a beautiful looking bird .
i've heard before that you can train them to go on command .. but budgies go every 20 minutes or something, maybe more than the larger bird .. & i wonder how difficult it is to train them .. if i got a larger bird i would definitely want them trained for that .. in fact i wanted a larger bird than a budgie but the size of the droppings put me off .. !!!
