This is Pookie, a minilop, and (as I tell him each and every day) The Best Bunny in the Whole Wide World. Some clueless person turned him in to the shelter way back in 2003 as a 2-year old, and he promptly made it clear he wanted ME to pick him up and cuddle him whenever I was within view. It was hysterical, and very unusual for a bunny. As prey animals they typically are not big fans of being held.

At that time the shelter was not as enlightened as it is now and soon he was in danger of being euthanized simply for not getting himself adopted fast enough. I couldn't let that happen. So I "fostered" him for a rescue group, and we all know that meant I adopted him shortly thereafter ;-)

He has the run of my bedroom, chews almost nothing, uses his litterbox faithfully, and hops up on the bed each and every night to snuggle. When I pet him he melts into a little bunny puddle. He lets anyone and everyone pet him or pick him up so he's done countless turns as a demo bunny at pet fairs and when I teach rabbit classes at the shelter. He is amazing!!! I know one shouldn't have favorites but ... I can't help but adore this little guy :-)

For anyone who might want some insight into bunny behavior I highly recommend a visit to The Language of Lagomorphs. It's pretty funny, besides being educational.

Wow Mary, I did not know bunnies could be so much fun! Your comment is not only funny, it is highly educational. It looks like bunnies can behave like cats (litterbox?? who knew?) and their coats are so soft. I guess you must spend hours just petting him. I know I would! Thanks for the introduction to Pookie! I'll never look at a bunny the same way again...

What an awesome story!!! I tried to litter train our last bunny and she would have no part of it. She wanted to lie in the litter and dig. Then there wasn't any litter. LOL
