Is this the same stretch of beach that you took the three friends?
For me when I see someone walking like this, it reminds me of the feeling of being alone in a world full of people. A bit sad, but content as well. Very nice. |

I like that Paul selected one of your own images against which to spotlight this. Way cool! And I still love it, even if they are seagulls and not pigeons. :-) |

I'm so surprised this is so far down on the list. I really liked it. The story, the red, the composition. Pfffft to all those nay sayers. |

Well, it really did stay at 5.5. That sucks. I would have expected to see a much higher score. |

He seems so purposeful compared to everyone else. Not that he's in a business suit or anything, but something about his pose says he's on his way to do something specific, while everyone else seems to be lazing about as people on vacation at the beach tend to do. Love the pastels in the sand and water and sky ... really painterly look, but not so far from a photograph as to seem overprocessed. I like this a lot. |

Kind of a mundane scene -- not much happening. |

Love your processing - the muted tones with the shock of red is just great! |

For some reason that I can't quite figure out, I really like this shot. There's something a bit unusual about it, but at the same time familiar. I find my eyes wandering around the shot for a while and coming back to the man in red and the two birds in the foreground. There's nothing outstanding here, yet I've been sitting staring at this for about 2 minutes now, very odd! |

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Sometimes while making comments in this series I include an image that has wider appeal - this is one of those images. It's the light that catches my eye here - I've seen it before in some images - here:
and
here
It is always captivating - it gives a painted feel that I really like.
Critical stuff: The non horizontal horizon bugs me a little and I'm not sure that your 'man in red' is optimally placed in the frame.
Overall: I really like it; it's seriously easy on the eyes. |

I like the softness and the pastel colors. |

I like how he stands out with his red shirt. It's almost like he was placed in a soft painting. The birds in the foreground add a nice touch too. 7 |
