I like ccraft's comments here. The first thing I saw was the perspective. This seems like a person is looking straight down at it, and that can evoke some response as it mimics a normal human view.
On the other hand, I feel that the picture might be stronger overall if you made an attempt to keep exactly the same field of view of the home plate, but brought your camera down to ground level.
Next, you would probably have to move the ball to an appropriate position, preferably fairly prominent, with sufficient detail in the textures of the well-loved baseball, while maintaining the good use of the negative space of the plate (as mentioned by someone else).
It's a very nice picture.
Oh yeah, and I like how close the crop to the home plate is. :) |

WTG on your personal best. I liked this photo it was simple yet effective, clear and well focused.
What it lacked for me was the Wow factor so it holds little interest
I scored it a 7 as did 35 others :-)
How to make this photo better... I dunno, cause if I did my scores would be higher too. ;-)
But I might have been inclined to place a dusty footprint on the plate.
or partially in the dirt an on the plate. |

I like the fact that the baseball is signed - there's the team without the players :) However, I don't like how close cropped the home plate is... |

Nice and simple idea, I like the off-centering of the ball and the fact that it has some writings on it, it tells a story that way. Great job...
Good luck... |

Very inventive thought for this challenge. I like that you took the time to think about balance and negative space, as well as effective lighting. Would it have been better if, instead of shooting from over head, you shot from right around the ground-level, maybe looking at the ball out onto the plate? But overall very good. Good luck |
