I have to say this was my top pick… I really didn’t notice the focus thing but I can see where that would improve the shot… main thing for me was the subject matter. I feel this is such a classic site when it comes to baseball… but its also isn’t a vision that is captured to often. Everyone puts such emphasis on throwing the first pitch and things like that… but what about keeping the base clean so the pitcher can throw a good clean strike… bravo… and by the way… technically… the umpire isn’t a player… so this gets technical marks with me to… quite cleaver.

great idea!!! you might get some low scores or comments for there being a hand in this picture (some might consider the ump a "player") but just ignore that. great shot!!!

I like the concept this photo more than nearly every other in this challenge. I think you are too far out of focus in the front edge of the image (out of focus is good, it is just too far out), and the focus point should be just at the place where the brush meets the surface, not just behind that spot.

This picture has potential. I would have tried some different angles and different DOF for comparison.

This is my favorite of the baseball shots. Great idea, really wonderful angle. Finally-- someone who thought about negative space, composition, saturation, etc. 10

This really gives me a good feeling. The first photo in the challenge to really generate such a response. I'm not sure if it will rate highly because the colour and focus aren't spot on, but this really is one of my favourites. Well done. 9
