Well thanks for your feedback folks, this is my first entry and i havent been doing photography long. My best shot was of a racing car crash 3 or 4 years ago and that was by pure luck. I have taken your comments onboard and will try to do better in future. The ants are there they are just really small, like most ants here in Perth, the capital of Western Australia.

I know it's an ant hill but I'm having trouble finding the ants. I recently took a shot of a fire ant hill covered with ants and none of the ants showed up in the photo. I can't figure it out. If you get it I'd like to know how. The ant hill is what you titled it and it is a good ant hill. I'll give you 7 for that but would have liked to have had the ants to confirm the "ant" part of the hill. PTL

An ant would have been nice

a different angle would have worked better here

Doesn't look terribly populated. I would have put the hole off center to find a few more ants for this pic. The composition is very boring with only a couple. - Just my opinion - Inspzil

Not sure what I'm supposed to look at, try isolating a more defined subject.

This is a decent closeup, but i'm not drawn to the image subjectively... - setzler

challenge -- kind of met, i don't get the feeling that you are close up from the photo. this is not really an anthill, more like fine gravel around a crack in the road where ants live.
technical -- good.
composition -- there's really nothing very interesting in this photo, sorry. ants would make a huge difference. overall, maybe if the hole was a little less off-center could add some dynamics to the photo.

its okay, not all that i guess, u can hardly see the ants, or the hill u can barely spot the whole, and i cant even see the aint hill.

Did you scare the ants away?

Lowering the camera to get some height from the hill as well as your light being lower might have helped. If this is as close as your camera gets, I understand, but I see no ants either.

This was a good idea, but I don't think your camera had the macro/close-up "oomph" to pull off this shot, particularly to display at this resolution. It's difficult to even see the ants against the busy background. You've clearly got an eye for a photo opportunity, though.

Might be better with a slight angle to distinguish depth a little better.
