Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED
Location: downtown Calgary
Date: Jun 18, 2009
Aperture: f/8

Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Cityscape, Architecture
Date Uploaded: Jun 23, 2009

Since I somehow didn't get time to submit my shot at home and the fact that my HD at home is acting weird I had to submit my shot from work. This meant using Picasa. :(
Cropped. Cranked shadows to the right. Cranked sharpening. Exported to JPG.
In retrospect, I kinda like the look of this. Considering it was done by a crop and dragging two sliders...its pretty cool!

Post challenge:

WOW! 5th??? I thought I had a good image here but didn't even think it would be top 10 let alone 5th. Considering that the editing was two minutes in Picasa ... wow!

Addendum:
4th now but only because this image got disqualified:

Really unfortunate DQ because its a great shot. So here's a shout out to you and your fantastic image Sandy.

Edit (Sept 2/09)
Looks like Sandy's image got reinstated! Yay! It also looks like I get to keep "fourth" (There are now two blue ribbon winners). Yay!

great shot!!
love the juxtaposition between the linier lines of the windows and the curve of the building.

This really did come out very well! I love the perspective, and the clouds and the light really worked out nicely. Congrats on the HM (somehow I missed this challenge) and the new PB. And a very nice gesture to Sandy as well!

well, WOW, it really is a beautiful photograph, I would never have thought I would say that about a building.

Way to rub it in how easy it is for you to get such amazing photography practically straight from the camera :) You're the bomb! And this was one of my favorites in the challenge. I knew it would be in the top few. Congratulations!

This does have a menacing sci fi sort of feel to it. I like the center texture and color. But the left and right of it loses something.

One of the best large building photos in this. The giant monolith is captured well, and the title is fitting. The sky goes well with the cold exterior.
One thing that detracts a bit for me is that it's ever so slightly asymmetrical. It's close enough that I would prefer it to be completely symmetrical, but still very good.

This is really good! In a challenge like this where architecture might be the first thing people think of, it takes alot for a photo to really stand out. Mission accomplished!!! This is so clean, and so striking. It looks like it reaches past the heavens!

I love the kaleidoscope effect on the sides of the building. Great shot!

This is excellent. Simple, symmetrical and strong.
