This is a 3-shot HDRI, and then I went overboard on the processing and overlays, but that's my mood today :-)
This is the Old San Miguel Mission in Socorro. Founded in 1598, it is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the US. This particular building isn't so old, of course, it has been rebuilt. According to an article on Wikipedia, local legend says that an angel appeared during an Apache raid and scared them off, so parishioners named the church after St. Michael who supposedly saved the village of Socorro.

And to answer Ingred Balko 's question, in the 20 or so times I've stopped here to take pictures, only once have I seen humans here. Even then, it was just two folks going in. I'm pretty sure if I went here on Sunday I'd run into more folks (which is a darn good reason not to go here on Sunday ;-)

Here's a version without the overlay

Wow! There's that incredible New Mexico sky I've come to know and love. The textures, colors, and the distortion from the wide angle view, and of course your processing all make this a great photograph.

Seriously, could you send some of that sky somewhere close to my place! Oh, how I envy such drama in the sky! The warm colours of the church make a like contrast to the stark colours in the sky. In all a very dramatic and well composed image! And although I like the touch of the postcard... I think this one could do quite well on it's own.

this image gives me a nice feeling. i don't know if it's wonder or nostalgia or what it is, but i love it. really one of the few shots where i've liked a centered subject.
