This was the most incredible sight I have seen since I have gotten to Nebraska (2 days ago.) It had been raining/drizzling when someone looked out the window and noticed the sun was bursting through the clouds. I got so excited and ran outside into the rain with my tripod, camera and umbrella and was struggling trying to set it up without getting wet when I hear someone scream RAINBOW. I ran to the other side of the house and this is what I saw. This is the most incredible rainbow I have seen in my entire life. It was a double rainbow too. I have a picture of the double rainbow but you can't see the entire ark in it. I was so excited I ditched the tripod and did it by hand. It is a pretty messy panoramic because some of the pictures within it are blurry because I was hurrying. I kind of lost my mind temporarily because it was so beautiful. Still, it was made out of 15 photos so the overall photo makes me so happy. This has very little post processing besides fixing the terrible job photoshop did of putting the panoramic together. I am so blessed to be staying somewhere so beautiful.
Wow, this is an amazing image in so many ways, the completeness of the rainbow itself, the light and color of the rest of the scene, the coverage of your captures and your skillful image stitching. I had never seen a rainbow so impressive but thanks to this image I now feel I've had that opportunity.
OMG WOW ok to be honest I was looking at the other one you had and decided to comment on that one before looking at this one but this one is truly unique, awesome capture. The only thing I could pick on is the slightly tilted horizon lol but meh its overshadowed by the beauty of the rest of the photo. Excellent capture!
This is a lovely rainbow shot - I am always disappointed in mine, as the camera just doesn't seem to capture the richness and transparency of the bands of color, and there is generally a too-warm look, which muddies the color, but this one is very close to reality. I can't wait for 3D to hit digital photography - it will revolutionize many things, rainbows being one to get a great boost, and probably lightning too; I only have a basic photoshop and wonder where the pano tools come in - well done with the pix, though!
Forget the rainbow, did you get the pot of gold??...:)
Hey I agree this is very cool indeed; just glad we get to see it.
RE: losing your mind, I am new but as time goes on, check my gallery for losing your mind, when I shoot my brain can't remember any of those amazing ideas and notes I took while at home, so I could do anything!!..:)
An amazing photo and a case of being in exactly the right spot at the right time. The symetry of this photo work really well. The reflections off the wet road are also good and add to the photo. A great capture
Incredible capture - I can see from another of your shots that you weren't the only one out there admiring the view! For the pano, you obviously took more than one "row" of shots, yes? That's something I need to try one of these days.
I had 3 rows of shots and 5 columns of shots, 15 shots total. It really isn't too hard once you understand the pano software.

This is awesome, how the rainbow seems to go right on into the ground at the edges because of the reflection on the wet street. I saw that you were using the 24-70, and though " how did she do that with an APC sensor camera and that lens?" I have shot rainbows with the S 3 with APC sensor, and it takes my 15mm fisheye to get the whole thing like this.
I am glad that you are enjoying your new place.
It wasn't NEARLY wide enough. It took 15 pictures to cover the whole rainbow :-D
That's really cool, and I think a lot of photographers can relate to the temporary loss of sanity when nature gives you moments like these. You say there was very little processing, does that mean that the sky really was that much darker on the other edge of the rainbow? The reflections in the street are an extra kicker. I would not have thought this to be a pano unless you mentioned it, cool stuff.
Absolutely. I didn't do any spot editing at all. I just did a couple of overall lighting adjustments. That is what the sky looked like. :-D
whoa! Awesome! And I know what you mean about going nuts when something this amazing is happening in front of you.. I had an adventure with a glass and fire recently because of that.

Just incredible. I really thought the road was a lake at first. Wonderful reflection. It just doesn't get any better than catching a rainbow. And, the light is amazing.
The road really does look like a river, the river that flows into the beauty of the rainbow.
Very happy that you are loving the new location. Have fun exploring. Whenever my husband and I move we have a rule that when we can get to a destination three times without getting lost then it is time to explore a new way to get there. It's fun and exciting.
Brilliant Claire - just goes to prove you only have to be at the right place at the right time to get a fantastic shot like this. Love what you've done with the PP. Looks like a lovely place to live.
OMG .. THIS IS INSANE .. talk about a stunning scene and werent you in exactly the right place .. eventually .. !!
the road looks nearly like a river .. WOW .. !!
and the lighting .. just beautiful .. :)
ps .. i notice that you took it at 1/50th sec at iso 100 .. with the 40D you can up the iso more & still retain a fair degree of sharpness .. then you can speed up the shutter so that you dont have to worry about any camera shake .. well thats in situations where you dont have time to set the tripod up .. just a thought .
i actually took shots of katee on the firetrail yesterday and it was really overcast, so not much light .. i dont usually have the iso any higher than about 200 but to get the light in i went up to 800 .. i was shooting her moving so i was on 1/640th sec .. so it was pretty fast .. also i had the aperture at f5 .. using the 10-22 it only opens to f4.5 anyway .. but when looking at the images on the computer later i was surprised that the grain wasnt more pronounced .. i'll be putting katee in our june side in a while .. so you can see wot i'm talking about .. i'll put an unprocessed one in so you can see, coz after processing you wouldnt get much of an idea .. :)
