Voter: WTF?!

Yo_Spiff: It's an alien abduction of a banana.

Voter: You really expect me to believe that's a UFO? Looks like a desk lamp to me!

Yo_Spiff: As with any good sci-fi, you need to maintain a willing suspension of disbelief in order to appreciate the genre.

Voter: Uh, OK, but why are they abducting a BANANA?!

Yo_Spiff: To crossbreed with the cows they picked up on the last visit. The banana milkshakes are out of this world!

---------------------------------------------------------

I had originally done something with a computer study guide and a lamp, to to be titled "Light Reading", but it sucked. I would have given it a 4, and I'm a generous voter. I didn't think I was going to have an entry for this one, but it was a slow day. My Rebel was out in the truck and I got to playing around with my phone-camera. A little (well, actually a LOT) of manipulation with Topaz adjust, clarify and so much layer work I lost track. I'm fairly impressed with what I ended up with from a phone cam shot. Here's the out of camera shot:

Pre-challenge notes:
Expecting too come in with a sub-5 average on this one. Hopefully it'll get a lot of fun comments.

Anticipated critiques include:
-"WTF?"
-"Too much graininess in the background."
-"WTF?"
-"Lens flare"
-"WTF?"
-"I don't like bananas, 2."
-"WTF?"
-"I don't get how this relates to the challenge topic."
-"WTF?"

Post-challenge notes:
Came in on the high end of what I expected. Of interest was an equal number of people thought it was worth a 4 and a 6. There are more people that appreciate the odd stuff than I figured.

All that stuff about alien abductions and milk shakes is great but when did it become ok to use a cell phone?!?!? Amazing stuff...!

I believe. I've had 3 bananas disappear last week alone. They're out there...
...oh, and so are you. ;-) Love the shot!

I love it. Such a lot of humour in it. Thanks for sharing this with us. And your comments on the photo made it even beter. Great entertainment :-)

This is classic! I'm not surprised at the low score but I think it's a stroke of genius!

The fact that the banana is rotten only enhances the strangeness of the shot for me. The perspective is great, very old style sci-fi look. Love it!

Funny thing is, you beat out 38 other submissions who used either DSLR's or point and shoots. I think its time for a cell phone cam challenge :) Very funny shot... and I wouldn't have known it was a cell phone cam either.

Sorry, meant to comment on images before challenge was over, but life got busy.

I love the idea, but I gave it a 5.

1. Even good ideas should be relatively appealing. The banana really isn't good for anything except muffins. It's kind of gross looking... So I "feel nothing" for the banana--so who cares if it's abducted? good riddance!

2. graininess doesn't really add much.

3. the thing on the right makes it look like it was a quick shot instead of a planned one.

4. It's really not a nice banana. I mean, it doesn't have to be perfect. A wonderfully, beautiful banana wouldn't have as much character, but it looks chewed up on the right side and it looks like it's starting to mold.

5. stem doesn't really need to disappear quite so much (nit-picking)

6. I really don't like the banana. (or did I say that before...)

This is why I come here. To see how far people can take the topic and push the boundaries with it. What an awesome, random, yet topically-correct concept.

My only criticism would be that the object to the right of the banana detracts a little from the otherwise ethereal effect.

It mightn't be the prettiest, but to me it's one of the best.
But great thinking. 8 :)
