A great idea that matches the title well. A little more DOF control would have made this a much better image and conveyed the nature of the subject matter more effectively. The focused area is perfectly detailed and the ambient light very well managed, but the short focus detracts from it's overall impact. Certainly a worthy effort in the challenge and if the DOF effect had been made better use of, it would have been a top ten image and a possible ribbon winner. |

Nice shot, it might have been better in B&W with sepia toning. JMO! |

My personal favorite entry in this challenge. I wanted to do something very similar to this, but couldn't find a suitable location. I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with -- but I love this shot -- this is precisely what came to mind for me when I read about this challenge.
My grandfather used to take me walking on the railroad tracks just down the road from their house when I was a very little boy. I still have a collection of old spikes and plates we'd "clean up" from time to time. The old rusty spikes and rails really bring back great memories. |

Great use of shallow DOF, I like the composition as well, the way the bottom right corner wraps right around the edge of the track bolt thingy (I wish I knew what that was called so I didn't ruin a perfectly good comment with my ignorance, oh well :P |
