Challenge: Self Portrait Without People (Basic Editing)
Date Uploaded: Mar 2, 2009

Did anybody read this? 'Description - Your challenge is to portray your essence without including any part of yourself in the image.'

My 'essence' was that I feel lost in the crowd. How hard was that. Some of you got it and thanks for that. In case you don't know, here is the meaning of the word 'Essence'.

es·sence n. - The intrinsic or indispensable properties that serve to characterize or identify something.

wow here is another definition:
bitter:
adjective
1. having a harsh, disagreeably acrid taste, like that of aspirin, quinine, wormwood, or aloes.
2. producing one of the four basic taste sensations; not sour, sweet, or salt.
3. hard to bear; grievous; distressful: a bitter sorrow.
4. causing pain; piercing; stinging: a bitter chill.
5. characterized by intense antagonism or hostility: bitter hatred.
6. hard to admit or accept: a bitter lesson.
7. resentful or cynical: bitter words.

in photography, just like many things in life, we grow when we accept the criticism along with the praise. It's not always easy but being able to look at ourselves and our art subjectively goes along way.

...end of quote

FYI Jason, I'm not 'bitter' - I was and still am confused by and concerned that people make comments and vote without bothering to read the challenge description. I'm also wondering what possessed you to make this totally random comment what seems to me to be out of the blue and unprovoked. And if I were 'bitter', why would that be any concern to you and why did you feel it necessary to point it out as a comment rather then PM me? That is strange to me...but, it's your life to do what you want with...

I'm guessing you've taken a DNMC hit from some. i'll give you the benefit of the doubt that none of these people is you. Not sure what this tells me about you though, which is the point of the challenge.

A very difficult picture to take. I hope you are not really lost in a crowd.

I like the concept of your essence. But not the shot It's boring, and not original.

most definitely lost in the crowd. i like the fact that there is a fence, it gives a nice breaking focus point to the whole chaos.
